WhatsApp chat to PDF, with every voice note transcribed

A chat export is full of gaps where the voice notes were. InkSaid fills every one of them, on your own Mac, and gives you one record you can search, read and save as a PDF.

The problem with a chat export

When you export a WhatsApp chat, you get the written messages as text. Every voice note shows up as a file name, or as "audio omitted". The written messages are often the small talk. The voice notes are where people explain, agree, promise and change their minds.

So someone ends up listening to every note and typing it out by hand. For a long chat that is hours of work, and it is easy to miss one.

What InkSaid does with it

Drop the exported zip into InkSaid on your Mac. InkSaid reads the chat, transcribes every voice note on your own Mac, and puts each transcript back in the conversation, exactly where it was sent, with the sender and the time.

You get:

  • One complete record. Every message and every voice note, in order, in writing.
  • A link to the original audio beside every transcribed note, so nobody has to rely on the transcript alone.
  • A fingerprint of every file. InkSaid records a SHA-256 fingerprint of the original zip and of each voice note, so the record can be tied back to the untouched source files.
  • A clean PDF. Save the record as a PDF in one click, ready to read, share or file.
  • Search by person. The whole chat goes into your private archive, so you can find what anyone said, written or spoken.

Nothing is uploaded. The zip, the audio and the words stay on your Mac.

How to export a chat with its voice notes

On an iPhone:

  1. Open the chat and tap the name at the top.
  2. Scroll down and tap Export Chat.
  3. Choose Attach Media. Without it, WhatsApp leaves the voice notes out.
  4. Save the zip to Files, or AirDrop it to your Mac.

On Android:

  1. Open the chat and tap the three dots.
  2. Tap More, then Export chat.
  3. Choose Include media.

Then drop the zip into InkSaid, under Import a whole WhatsApp chat.

Good to know

  • WhatsApp caps how much media one export can carry. On a very long chat some voice notes may be left out. InkSaid tells you how many, so you can export a shorter date range to get them.
  • Transcripts are made by a machine. They are very good, but they can mishear a name or a number. The original audio sits beside every note so you can check.
  • A transcript is not a certified translation or a certified transcript. If you need one for a court or a regulator, use InkSaid's record as the working copy and have it certified.
  • Check your own rules on keeping and using other people's messages.
