What stays on your Mac, and what can leave it
Privacy is the product, so here is the full picture in plain words. What stays on your Mac, what can leave it, and how to stop anything leaving at all.
Always on your Mac
- The speech engine. Voice notes are turned into text by an engine running on your own Mac.
- Your audio. It never leaves your Mac, and it is deleted once the words appear. The one exception is a WhatsApp chat you import on purpose: its audio is kept on your Mac beside the record, so every line links to the original.
- Your archive. On Pro, every transcript is kept in a private file on your Mac, readable only by you. Never on our servers.
- Your spellings. The names you teach InkSaid stay on your Mac.
What can leave your Mac, and only if you use it
- Notes from your iPhone when you are away from home. They travel through your own iCloud Drive, in your Apple account, not ours. Apple encrypts them end to end only if you have turned on Advanced Data Protection. You can switch this route off.
- Cloud minutes. For forwarding bots and devices that cannot run the engine. The audio is processed in the EU, the real file name never leaves your device, and the transcript is erased from the service as soon as it comes back.
- AI summaries and reply drafts. These send the words of a note to an AI model to write the summary or reply. The words are deleted after processing and never used for training.
- Asking an AI assistant about your notes. When you connect Claude, ChatGPT or another assistant, the notes it reads to answer you go to that AI company.
Keeping everything local
The Local only switch, coming to founding members, turns off cloud minutes, keeps AI work on your Mac or off, and limits assistants to the local connection. With it on, nothing leaves your Mac.
Deleting
Delete one note, one imported chat, or your whole archive, from inside InkSaid. Deleting is immediate and cannot be undone.
What we never do
- Keep your audio or transcripts on our servers.
- Train AI on your notes.
- Sell or share your email.
- Ask you to sign up to anyone else's service.
